Dula Ta: Theater Peace Production


"Dula Ta," this is a one-act play, which is designed as a poor man's theater. Dula Ta is made the main featured play of the Itanum Kalinaw Peace projects as the Theater for Peace Component, sponsored by Act for Peace Programme together with Kalimudan Culture and Arts Center and the Mindanao State University Kabpapagariya Ensemble, which has been implemented for two years now. This small play became a major production that were featured in theater festivals in Mindanao, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, MetroManila and Luzon, and an international productions in Cyprus and Israel.

MSU-KE performed "DULA TA" for WOmens Day Theater Forum


The SOCSKSARGEN PEACE NETWORK spearheaded by the Kapapayapaan Kapatid Council sponsored the play “DULA TA” by the MSU-KABPAPAGARIYA ENSEMBLE in celebration of the International Women’s Day at Family Country Homes Convention Center on March 8, 2009. The affair was a Theater Forum on Effects of War to Women and Children . The forum was co-sponsored by the Kalimudan Culture and Arts Center.

The affair was graced by various sectors from the police, military, religious, media, youth, women, local legislators, academe, NGOs and, business sector . The forum was facilities by Prof. Mario Joyo Aguja.
RATIONALEIn line with the vision and objectives of GoP-UN Act for Peace Programme, the local SOCSKSARGEN PEACE NETWORK which is based in General Santos City continues to pursue its peace work. The aspiration for peace in Mindanao now reverberates in all sectors. This is an achievement that should be continued and let it come to a higher level of involvement, more active participation and a deeper grasp of the issues that continue to bother Mindanao. The root of aspiration for harmonious co-existence and social justice is now deep down in the cultural and social roots of this island. The Peace Forum on March 8, 2009 is a concrete move to continue this lifetime work for peace. This peace forum is also a Celebration for the International Women's Day. The basic social unit (the family) always bears the brunt of the impact of conflict. At the center of this are the women and children, while the men are out of the house, they usually suffer in silent and so withthe children. This Peace Forum on Women and Children includes a theater performance. The play DULA TA (a play that depicts the sufferings of women and children in a conflict-torn areas) serves as the stimulus for discussion. This is using art for social conscientization.
